Book Description

This book is a collection of the Corps projects constructed in the western United States. The book details nearly 150 lakes and reservoirs and the recreation areas surrounding each lake. Lakeside Recreation includes information on more than 1,200 lakeside parks, including over 800 campgrounds offering more than 35,000 campsites. Lakeside Recreation is the most complete and up-to-date book available on the Corps lakes. The Army Corps of Engineers is the largest engineering organization in the world. It traces its origins to the American Revolution when the Continental Congress established the Army. Since 1775, the Corps has had an ever-changing role. Today they are one of the Nation's largest providers of outdoor recreation. Next to the Department of the Interior, the agency that operates our national park system, the Corps of Engineers manages more recreation areas than any other federal or state agency. There are more than 450 projects nationwide with over 4,300 parks and recreation areas.
