Average annual precipitation has ranged from 37. 86 inches in 1941 to 64. 62 inches in 1957. Average precipitation above and below Chattanooga was 4. 09 inches and 0. 45 inch more than the long==term mean, respectively. These amounts are listed in the summary on the cover of this report. The frontispiece map shows the 1971 annual distribution of precipitation over the Basin. The index map following page 15 shows the station locations, and Tables 1 through 10 on pages 21 to 59 show precipitation for stations listed in upstream order. Monthly precipitation in the Basin was above the 7 5-year mean during seven months of the year with March, April, June, August, and November having totals below the mean. The driest month was November with 2. 36 inches, and the wettest was July with inches. The table on page 6 shows monthly and annual precipitation data with means and deviations for the Basin.
