Book Description
Excerpt from Technical Dictionary of Dancing It is not my purpose to write a history of Dancing. Many pens more fluent than mine have at various times undertaken this task. Neither am I giving in this book the descriptions of various dances, character, national, etc. I am dealing solely and only with the classical art of Operatic Dancing, and my desire is to supply a long-felt want: a dictionary of technique, in the English language. Most works upon Dancing have been written in French, German and Italian, and when these books have come into the hands of English teachers and students, each individual has translated or interpreted a particular work, according to "his or her own knowledge of the given language and of the art of Dancing," with the result that more often than not a word is translated literally, conveying in English a totally different meaning to the one intended by the writer. In this book I have compiled the various exercises, movements and steps, giving in the details of technique, the salient points, the qualities to seek, and the dangers to avoid in their execution. I am not endeavouring to teach the art of Dancing herein. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
