The purpose of the Water Remedial Investigation is to present the U.S. Department of the Army's Remedial Investigation results for the RMA on-post water media. This document is a formal Remedial Investigation product prepared in accordance with the Federal Facility Agreement (1989), the RMA Technical Program Plan (TPP) (Program Manager's Offices PMO, 1988 RIG #88131R01) and the June 1983 Remedial Investigation Guidance Document (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, EPA). This report is one of four Remedial Investigation reports and seven Remedial Investigation Study Area Reports (SARs) prepared define the nature and extent of contamination and complete a comprehensive Remedial Investigation for the On-post Operable Unit of RMA as required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) and the National Contingency Plan (NCP). The objective of this task is to conduct a remedial investigation and feasibility study off-post of RMA. This RI/FS will: (1) evaluate the extent of contamination to the north and northwest of the arsenal, (2) estimate the risk to the environment and public health, (3) identify appropriate remedial responses. Sections of the report discuss the following: (1) geotechnical and chemical analysis, (2) ground water sampling, (3) safety plan for field activities, (4) data management and evaluation of data, (5) ea methodology which will be required in order to determine the magnitude and probability of actual or potential harm to the public or the environment.

The purpose of the biota remedial investigation report is to present the current nature and extent of contamination in biota on RMA. The report integrate known historical information, the results of previous investigations, and results of current programs. The report is divided into the following sections: General background information on RMA contamination and past investigations; Description of the physical environment, regional biota, and biota within the arsenal; identification of important biological components as a basis for evaluating contamination; Summary of the methods used in this assessment; Data on the types and concentrations of contaminants in RMA biota; and Assessment of the distribution and concentration of contaminants in biota and associated environment to evaluate pathways for contaminant movement.

The purpose of the Southern Study Area (SSA) Report is to present the Army's Remedial Investigation (RI) results for the southern portion of Rocky Mountain Arsenal (RMA). This document is a formal RI product in accordance with the proposed Federal Facilities Agreement and Settlement Agreement (1988), the RMA Technical Program Plan (TPP) (PMO, 1988/RIC 88131R01), and the June 1985 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) RI Guidance Document. The seven completed RI Study Area Reports (SARs), along with the RI media reports for air, biota, buildings, and water, fulfill the requirements of defining the nature and extent of contamination, and completing a comprehensive RI for the On-post Operable Unit of RMA as required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), and the National Contingency Plan (NCP). The SSA report integrates known historical information, the results of previous investigations, and the current RI programs for buildings, soil, surface water, groundwater, biota, and air to present an overall environmental contamination assessment of the study area as required under Contract Numbers DAAA15-88-D- 0024. The SSA Report represents Volume VI of the overall RMA Remedial Investigation.
