The 1996 report is the 20th in a series of annual reports highlighting achievements of the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC). TFHRC is operated by the Federal Highway Administration's Office of the Associate Administrator for Research and Development. This report covers the period of October 1, 1995 through September 30, 1996. It includes the following components: Statement of the Associate Administrator, Operations, Research Accomplishments, Technical Training, Reports and Periodicals, Abbreviations, and listing of TFHRC Research Laboratories. The Operations section provides an overview of how TFHRC fits into the overall FHWA R & T Program, TFHRC's role, its budget, and descriptions of its staff and organizational structure. The Research Accomplishments section of the report is the most prominent one, which outlines TFHRC research objectives, including improving mobility, enhancing safety, developing new technology, protecting the environment, and improving the quality of program delivery. This section of the report describes various research accomplishments that infuse these objectives. The last main section of this report covers technical training, which is the responsibility of the National Highway Institute (NHI).
