Thank You for All Things

Book Description

At twelve, Lucy Marie McGowan already knows she’ll be a psychologist when she grows up. And her quirky and conflicted family provides plenty of opportunity for her to practice her calling. Now Lucy, her “profoundly gifted” twin brother, Milo, her commitment-phobic mother, and her New Age grandmother are leaving Chicago for Timber Falls, Wisconsin, to care for her dying grandfather—a complex and difficult man whose failure as a husband and father still painfully echoes down through the years. Lucy believes her time in the rural town where the McGowan story began will provide a key piece to the puzzle of her family’s broken past, and perhaps even reveal the truth about her own missing father. But what she discovers is so much more—a lesson about the paradoxes of love and the grace of forgiveness that the adults around her will need help in remembering if their family is ever to find peace and embrace the future. By turns heart-wrenching and heart-mending, Thank You for All Things is a powerful and poignant novel by a brilliant storyteller who illustrates that when it comes to matters of family and love, often it is the innocent who force others to confront their darkest secrets.

Thank You God

Book Description

I want to share with you a powerful principle - a key that will bring you great peace of mind, joy in heart and confidence. It is the power of "Thank You God!" To thank Him in everything and for all things." Amazing things happen when we thank God in everything and for all things. If you begin to do it, you will experience great peace in the midst of your storms, on the way to your safe haven. I experienced this power recently in my life, and it had such an impact on me, that I felt that I just had to write this little book.In this book, we will understand that tough times come upon all of us, and oftentimes unannounced. Even though we may be faith-people, who know how to stay in the Word, and walk by faith and not by sight, and to confess and declare God's Promises, sometimes our faith does indeed get challenged severely.Job and Solomon went through such trials, not to mention Moses and Joseph, and other heroes of the faith. Yet they overcame, and we too shall overcome. Our trials may not be pleasant at the time, but they are building our faith and bringing us closer to God! We will learn to give God thanks in everything, not necessarily for everything but in everything. Then we will learn to give thanks even for all things, not just in the midst of them. We will see that this is the will of God. We will see that we should take heart in the midst of our trials, because something better is coming, because God causes all things to work for our good, for our benefit! We are on a road to victory, and though the journey may seem long and hard, victory is certain, because God always causes us to triumph, and He always leads us in a triumphant procession! Praise His holy Name. We will see that whatever is going on in our lives this moment is part of a bigger plan, that God is sovereign and at work. And He that begun the work will also complete it, so that we may be whole and complete, and so much more like Jesus...We will also learn how to thank God in advance for things not yet realized, for giving thanks for things you cannot see is indeed a powerful act - the act of receiving by faith. We will see that God is sovereign, and because of both His sovereignty and His love for us, that He cares for us, we can rest in His love, and trust Him - that everything will be okay, for God is at work... We need to be strong, not only for ourselves, but for others. Others need to see in us the strength of trusting God in the midst of our trials. How we act in our trials will hurt or help others. Let us help. Let us help by our example of trusting God and thanking Him on our journey to victory. God is telling His People to live a life of thanksgiving - thank Him in and for all things. We will also learn that whenever we go through any situation, even if it is a hard or hurtful one, to look for that silver lining, and thank God for it. Not only are we to give thanks to God, but we should become the reason others give thanks to God. We will learn that God is at work in us and that even our difficulties are part of God's grander plan. To have the Creator of everything at work in us is amazing, and we can be sure that He will complete the work He started. For this we must give God thanks. We will see that thanksgiving is a spiritual sacrifice, and that we should enter into His gates with thanksgiving. We will learn that we should give God thanks when we go through trials - for the strength and endurance He gives us to go through them, as well as for the outcome - our ultimate victory in adversity. And let us allow Him to complete the work that He started in us. How honored we are that Almighty God allows us to go through trials, and then give us triumph. Ultimately, we give God thanks for His unspeakable gift - JESUS CHRIST. www.joelhitchcock.blogspot.com

Sleeping Bear

Book Description

“Sleeping Bear is…one of those rare novels that keeps getting better and better and better. Remember the author’s name—Connor Sullivan.” —James Patterson A former Army veteran seeking solitude in the Alaskan wilderness after her husband’s death finds herself a pawn in a deadly game with Russia in this white-knuckled and “heart-stopping thrill ride” (Chris Hauty, author of Deep State). After her young husband’s untimely death, Army veteran Cassie Gale decides to take a few days of solitude in the Alaskan wilderness before she starts her new job. But when she fails to show up on her first day and her dog is discovered injured at her wrecked campsite, her father knows that this is much more than a camping trip gone awry. As it turns out, Cassie’s not the first person to disappear without a trace in Alaska’s northern interior. Bears. Wolves. Avalanches. Frostbite. Starvation. There are many ways to die in here. But not all disappearances can be explained. Cassie’s is one of them, along with a number of other outdoor enthusiasts who have vanished in recent years. Regaining consciousness in a Russian prison, Cassie finds herself trapped in a system designed to ensure that no one ever escapes alive. It will require all her grit and skills to survive. Meanwhile, her father rushes to outrun the clock, scouring thousands of acres, only to realize she’s been taken by a nefarious adversary—one with the power of the Eastern Bloc behind it. Ties to his past life, one full of secrets, threaten to surface. He knows there’s a price to be paid, but he’s determined it won’t be his daughter. Timely, electrifying, and perfect for fans of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor, “Sleeping Bear clamps you in its jaws and doesn’t let go. A fierce, relentless beast of a novel” (Tess Gerritsen, New York Times bestselling author).
